More than seven months after miraculously surviving a devastating car accident that left him with a serious leg injury, reality TV star Nelson Thomas has found himself on the wrong side of the law. The Challenge star has been charged with a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) in late September in Texas, according to TMZ.

Details emerged that the incident occurred on March 6, 2023, when Thomas lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a bridge in Austin, causing the car to burst into flames. Reportedly, officers observed "bloodshot, glassy eyes" and detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his breath shortly after the accident.

Despite claiming to have consumed only a few alcoholic drinks prior to the incident, a blood test taken at the hospital revealed a stunning blood alcohol content (BAC) of .178, more than double the legal limit. This elevated his charge to a Class A misdemeanor, as reported by Page Six.

Thomas, who has been dealing with a serious leg injury and limited mobility as a result, had previously been released from custody due to the necessary medical treatment for his injuries. However, on September 28, he was taken into custody again and subsequently released upon posting a $5,000 bond. The reality star is now scheduled to appear in court on November 16.

The news of Thomas's DWI charge comes after he shared graphic images of his injuries and hospitalization on Instagram to update his fans on his recovery progress. In the post, he expressed gratitude to those who helped rescue him from the burning vehicle, including NFL player K.J. Osborn.

A GoFundMe campaign was set up to assist with his medical expenses, and it has garnered over $58,000 in donations thus far. The campaign highlights Nelson Thomas's faith in Christ and encourages prayers for his recovery.

As November 16 approaches, Thomas faces the legal consequences of his actions while he continues his journey towards physical recovery. The reality TV star must now confront the aftermath of his DWI charge, potentially altering the trajectory of his career in the entertainment industry.
