Actor Mugdha Godse met Madhur Bhandarkar during the making of "Traffic Signal" and expressed her desire to work with him. When "Fashion" came along, Bhandarkar found the perfect girl for the role of Janet. Godse recalls how she came on board, "He with his team used to visit fashion shows, and in one of our fashion weeks in Delhi, we sat down and chatted a lot. The next day I was called to play a part in the film and I accepted it."
Godse, who herself was a top model, found shooting the film a bit scary as the story was close to reality. However, the team made it a fun experience. "I remember shooting on my birthday and all of them celebrated it together. Being appreciated by Madhur and others after my first scene felt special," shares Godse.
Samir Soni, who played the character of Rahul Arora, a gay designer, had to shoot a scene involving a kiss. Soni wanted to portray the character in a way that wasn't stereotypical. He recalls a funny incident during the shoot, where the younger actor was scared to kiss him and kept calling him "bhaiyya."
Ashwin Mushran, another actor in the film, saw the opportunity to work with Bhandarkar and Priyanka Chopra as enticing. He shares, "Not many actors at that time would say yes to playing a gay character." Working with supermodels on set was a great learning experience for him. "They didn't really care about who was who. It was quite refreshing." Mushran also talks about wanting to keep his character natural and how he addressed a comment from an AD about being "more gay."
The film "Fashion" was a memorable experience for the actors, filled with challenges and moments that brought them closer together.
