Jacob Elordi, known for his role in the Kissing Booth films, was seen in NYC this week wearing a long black coat and sunglasses reminiscent of the one and only Elvis Presley. The actor is currently promoting his new film Priscilla, in which he portrays the legendary singer.
During an interview on the Today show, Elordi opened up about how he prepared for the role, stating that he has immersed himself in everything Elvis. From listening to every recorded word the iconic musician has ever said to studying his unique mannerisms, the young actor aimed to capture the charisma and energy that made Elvis so legendary.
Directed by Sofia Coppola and based on Priscilla's memoir "Elvis And Me," the biopic delves into the complex romance between Elvis and Priscilla Presley, which began when she was only 14 years old. Elordi stars alongside Cailee Spaeny, who plays Priscilla in the film.
Reflecting on watching the Priscilla biopic with the real-life Priscilla at the Venice Film Festival, Elordi admitted feeling a sense of invasiveness. However, he also praised his co-star Cailee, describing her as an incredibly talented actress and his best friend during the filming process.
Elordi’s journey into the role began with an unexpected email invitation to breakfast with Sofia Coppola. A couple of weeks later, he received the audition slides, featuring the word "Elvis" at the top, ultimately leading him to secure the coveted role.
While the Priscilla biopic has received mixed reactions, with Elvis's estate criticizing the set designs, Priscilla has expressed her excitement for the film and praised Sofia Coppola's perspective. The highly-anticipated movie is set to be released on November 3rd.
