Ghislaine Maxwell's infamous London residence, located in the upscale neighborhood of Belgravia, is currently undergoing renovation work. The mews house has been vacant for years since Maxwell became embroiled in the sex trafficking scandal involving her former associate, billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Scaffolding and protective plastic now cover the two-story building, with construction workers coming and going for several weeks.
Notices posted at the property state that the builders have obtained permission to erect scaffolding on the public highway for a period of four months, from October to February. Photos of the property near Hyde Park reveal a stylish interior, while others indicate that refurbishment is necessary. Most notably, the infamous staircase where Prince Andrew was photographed with Virginia Giuffre remains intact and visible through the front door.
While no planning applications have been submitted to Westminster City Council for this property, all the ongoing work must comply with permitted development regulations. The house was sold by Maxwell to Hampshire-based property developer Stuart Robinson for £1.75 million in 2021, as part of her efforts to cover her legal expenses.
In a 2021 lawsuit, Virginia Giuffre claimed that she was coerced into having sex with Prince Andrew on three occasions, including once at the Belgravia address in 2001, at the request of Epstein, Maxwell's former boyfriend. Prince Andrew has vehemently denied any wrongdoing and asserted that he has never even met Giuffre, who now resides in Australia and is a mother of three.
The renovation of Maxwell's former home comes amid ongoing controversy and legal battles surrounding her involvement with Epstein and the sexual exploitation of young girls. Ghislaine Maxwell, daughter of newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell, was sentenced to 20 years in prison last year after being found guilty of sex trafficking. However, she has launched an appeal, claiming that her lengthy sentence was a response to public uproar.
As the property undergoes renovation, its infamous history continues to cast a shadow. The allegations against Prince Andrew and the association of this address with the scandal have sparked public interest and scrutiny. The ongoing work serves as a reminder of the disturbing events that unfolded within these walls and the legal consequences faced by those involved.
