An American retired lawyer and university professor, Kenneth Darlington, 77, was caught on camera shooting dead two climate change protesters in Panama on Tuesday. Darlington appeared in court the following day and was charged with murder and illegal possession of a gun. The victims, both teachers, were protesting against the Panamanian government's agreement with a Canadian firm to run Central America's biggest open-pit copper mine. The incident occurred on the Pan-American Highway, about 55 miles west of Panama City, in front of a large number of photographers and television crews.
