Actor Kangana Ranaut has made history at the famed Lav Kush Ramleela in New Delhi. On the occasion of Dussehra, Ranaut became the first woman to perform the Ravan Dahan during the event's 50-year history. The effigy of the demon king was set ablaze by Ranaut shooting an arrow, marking a significant moment for gender equality. The decision was taken by the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee in recognition of the Women's Reservation Bill recently passed by the Parliament.
Speaking about the decision, Arjun Singh, president of the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee, explained that in previous years the event had been graced by VIPs, including former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as actors Ajay Devgn, John Abraham, and Prabhas. However, this year, in a nod to gender equality, it was decided that a woman should perform the Ravan Dahan. Kangana Ranaut was chosen for this historic moment.
Singh emphasized the committee's desire for equal rights for women and the need to eliminate narrow-mindedness from society. He acknowledged the increasing participation of women in various fields but stressed that there is still a long way to go. In this context, the Women's Reservation Bill, which aims to guarantee 33 percent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, is seen as a step towards the development of the country and society.
Kangana Ranaut is currently busy promoting her upcoming film, Tejas, where she portrays the role of an Indian Air Force pilot. The movie, written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara, is set to be released on Friday. Ranaut's involvement in such a significant event as the Ravan Dahan further showcases her commitment to breaking gender barriers and empowering women in various fields.
This historic moment at Lav Kush Ramleela serves as a reminder of the progress being made towards gender equality in India. By allowing a woman to perform the Ravan Dahan, the committee not only highlights the importance of the Women's Reservation Bill but also signifies the changing landscape of societal norms. As women continue to make strides in every walk of life, it is crucial to support initiatives that promote equal rights and opportunities for all.
